Medicare’s's National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) New Edit Pairs and Terminiations

Dec 20, 2011

LATEST RELEASE OF MEDICARE'S NATIONAL CORRECT CODING INITIATIVE (NCCI) CONTAINS 15 THOUSAND NEW EDIT PAIRS ALONG WITH 6 THOUSAND TERMINATIONS

Frank Cohen, a healthcare statistician just completed his analysis of the NCCI 18.0 database and comparative analysis between this and last quarter’s 17.3 release. In all, there are around 15 thousand new edit pairs while just over six thousand have been terminated.  We are fast approaching a total of 1 million edit pairs in the database!  The improper use of the NCCI edits could result in either lost revenue or unbundling with exposure to charges of fraud-and-abuse.

Mr. Cohen posted his analysis summary along with a worksheet that details the changes.  To get a copy at no charge, go to www.frankcohengroup.com and click on the Library tab. Then, click on Research and Studies.
